Liposuction Technique:

Liposuction Technique:
Liposuction is done with the use of a series of blunt cannulas which can be passed through long distances under the skin to remove fat.  The cannulas come in a variety of sizes and tip configurations.  The suction applied to the cannulas evacuates the fat through a series of tunnels.  This is likened to swiss cheese in appearance.  With a sufficient series of tunnels the skin and fat contour is reduced and the fullness of the fatty area is diminished.

Liposuction is commonly done in the hip and lateral thigh areas.  This deformity has often been referred to as the "violin deformity".  The goal of the contouring is to produce a smooth contour by reducing the high points until there is a smooth contour.

The anterior abdomen is also a good site for liposuction.  It is often done in conjunction with a "Tummy Tuck".  When they are employed together the scars of the abdominoplasty or "Tummy Tuck" can be reduced.  The application of the two techniques depends upon the patient, their desires, and the nature of the skin.
